As Programme Director of Think City, Jia-Ping produced and co-curated Think City's Arts on the Move in Masjid Jamek Light Rail Transit station. An initiative to bring awareness and create inclusive access. It created a lot of buzz and signaled that the heart of Kuala Lumpur was coming alive again. Arts on the Move is the longest arts programme in a transit station. It ran from 2016 - 2019 and rebooted in 2023 with subsequent funding from Sime Darby Foundation

The journey began with developing the brand strategy for the Think City brand in line with their expansion into Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bharu and Butterworth.
Once the brand was established, the revitalisation programme commenced based on data from the area baseline study.
Jia-Ping co-developed a strategy that was a mix of economic, social as well as cultural initiatives. These comprised the bottom up social grant and the entrepreneurial grant, the creation of the WUF10 Urban Village, to the Arts on the Move programme (co-curating the arts advocacy/placemaking programme with Susie Kukathas). As Haed of Brand Communications, she drove the brand campaign starting Think City on a Social Media journey.
RESULT: Today, Think City is seen as a thought leader in Urban Rejuvenation - enabling and inspiring many placemakers and urban activists through their ground breaking projects

Pollin8 is currently working with developers and local councils to create better places through strategic workshops, place games and consultations.
In March 2023, together with our Dutch associate STIPO, Placemaking Malaysia and Malaysian Institute of Planners, we led a Place-Led Development workshop sponsored by Petaling Jaya City Hall, that looked at a place led intervention towards a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) site in Petaling Jaya.

Previous projects that our founder has led are strategy alignment between organisation and department for one of Malaysia's largest government organisation.
Another project in 2012 saw the creation of a more dynamic brand and organisation culture for See Hoy Chan prior to the building of The Starling Mall and the rejuvenation of Damansara Uptown. This new culture paved the way for the inclusion of a more diverse and younger team.
Leadership Coaching
Pollin8 is led by Founder Jia-Ping LEE who is passionate about seeding hope in people and places.
She has incorporated her experiences in theatre, the arts, branding, and place strategy to rejuvenate urban and corporate places, and hospitals. She has the unique ability to ascertain gaps and create workable solutions for cities, brands and organisations. Her primary aim is to increase economic vibrancy through a series of impactful economic, social and cultural interventions that aim to attract and retain businesses in cities as well as strengthening communities and organisations.
As the former Programme Director at Think City, a govt-linked urban rejuvenation ‘think and do’ tank under Khazanah Nasional (Malaysia's sovereign wealth fund), she drove the rejuvenation of the heritage core of Kuala Lumpur and introduced an entrepreneur matching grant to the Think City Grants Programme which was adopted for four cities in Malaysia. Using her theatre training and love of the arts, she spearheaded Arts on the Move, KL’s longest running visual and performing arts programme in an LRT (Light Rail Transit) station to generate excitement within the social media community ultimately leading to increase visitation and participation in the heritage core.
Her role in Think City saw her growing the placemaking movement in the region, culminating in the first ever Placemaker Week ASEAN 2019. In the same year, she was made Founding Senior Advisor and Regional Network Leader (Asia) of PlacemakingX (based in New York), and subsequently appointed as a member of the Start-Up Board in 2020. In 2021 Jia-Ping became the founding Chairperson of Placemaking Malaysia, under the auspices of Malaysian Institute of Planners where she continues to drive and grow the placemaking movement in Malaysia as well as the region.
One of her proudest achievements was fostering and enabling Kebun Kebun Bangsar, a community farm and urban oasis under a stretch of electricity pylons. This was a joint project in collaboration with Ng Seksan, KL City Hall and Think City. After three years, the Kebun is sustainable, self-funding and helps not only to provide a green refuge for a community recovering from the trauma of multiple pandemic lockdowns, but also provides fresh produce to homeless and refugee kitchens, and orphanages.
Jia-Ping has also helped many brands find their purpose as well as create a culture that grows and retains talent. In 2021 she completed a project with one of the largest Malaysian government agencies in aligning departmental strategy with overall corporate strategy.
She worked with See Hoy Chan on their brand which laid the foundation for the transformation of their culture, as well as guided the design and HR strategy, to prepare them for the Uptown area transformation and the development of The Starling mall.
She coached and facilitated a brand strategy for Zain & Co., which helped them transition from a local brand towards inclusion into Dentons, the largest global legal network in the world.
Other brands she has worked with include MAGIC, Roti Boy and George Town Penang, a UNESCO World Heritage city.

Janitha Sukumaran, Founder of Rantau Golin and Jia-Ping are passionate about crafting ESG/CSR programmes and messages for corporations.
Janitha has been actively communicating for over 30 years, starting as a journalist before moving into public relations. She co-founded Rantau in 1992 and led it to become a well-respected Malaysian-grown consultancy that specialises in C-Suite counsel, strategic communications and issues management, which is balanced by a more youthful approach in developing campaigns that are engaging and result-driven, using a mixed channel approach.
In 2018 Rantau teamed-up with international PR outfit Golin, and earned its place as a progressive public relations consultancy that marries this wealth of relevant experience and aligns it with earn-first, data-driven creatives – to deliver maximum impact for clients and reach a profoundly diverse market that will look at new and improved mediums of storytelling.
Janitha is a lifetime member of the Public Relations Consultants’ Association of Malaysia (PRCA Malaysia), joining at its inception and has served several terms on the association’s executive committee. She also guest lectures at local universities on crisis management and how to get the best from communication strategies. Occasionally, she pens her thoughts on current issues that grab her attention, generally from a public relations perspective.
